Sam Raimi is producing a brand new supernatural horror from director Iris K. Shim, and today we got a glimpse into ‘Umma’ which will arrive in theaters via Sony later this month on March 18th, starring Sandra Oh.
According to the official summary (via WikiPedia): “A mother’s love never dies” is the tagline on the Umma poster (also found below), and the trailer unleashes a tormented spirit which looks to take the form of a Kumiho, a nine-tailed fox spirit from Korean folklore. Kumiho is the Korean term for succubus, and you can see the nine-tailed fox at the 2:04 mark in the trailer. Umma is here, and she’s not alone.
“The only role the kumiho—the nine-tailed fox—plays in Korea is the demoness. Whether she appears as maiden, wife, or succubus, the kumiho’s sole goals are power and death. She is the only kind of fox that kills with her own hands, and also the only kind of fox that eats her prey.” This creature recently appeared in “Lovecraft Country.”
The film also stars Dermot Mulroney, Odeya Rush, MeeWha Alana Lee and Tom Yi.
