While it certainly is a bit odd, this story is all sorts of adorable.
The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control have granted a license for a young girl to own a unicorn, if she is able to find one.
Director Marcia Mayeda of the county Department of Animal Care and Control sent the girl a heart-shaped, rose-colored metal tag with “Permanent Unicorn License” emblazoned on it along with a fuzzy unicorn doll.
The girl had written a letter to the department over a month ago with one very specific request: “Dear LA County, I humbly ask for your permission to keep and care for a unicorn should I come across one.”
The Department acted in kindness, and posted the following on their Facebook page:
“This brought us so much JOY so we thought we should share with everyone. Madeline wrote us a letter requesting permission to have a unicorn in her backyard if she could find one. It is always rewarding to hear from young people who thoughtfully consider the requirements of providing a loving home to animals.
