Netflix is pouring out the horror in celebration of Halloween and directors Brian Netto and Adam Schindler dropped their brand new horror ‘Don’t Move’, produced by Sam Raimi, on the streaming platform last week.
According to the official synopsis: “A seasoned killer injects a grieving woman with a paralytic agent. She must run, fight and hide before her body shuts down.”
Starring Kelsey Asbille, Finn Wittrock and Moray Treadwell, the film takes a different approach to the serial killer blueprint.
Iris is a grieving mother who is struggling with guilt, depression, and suicidal thoughts following the tragic death of her son Matteo, who fell from a mountain apparently while his parents were nearby.
Iris seems disconnected and returns to the mountain, where Matteo died, and stands at the edge seemingly ready to jump, until she is interrupted by a passer-by named Richard, who engages her in conversation and shares his own story of loss.
Richard ultimately leaves her be, but the distraction was enough for Iris to step away from the mountain and head back to the trail.
On the trail, she walks alongside Richard and back to their parked cars where Richard has her boxed in. At this point, Richard’s plot comes to light as he attacks Iris and injects her with a paralytic agent that apparently kicked in an hour following injection.
While Iris attempts to run, he motor skills deteriorate and her body shuts down, leaving her in a paralyzed state where she can only blink her eyes. This allows Richard to stalk and hunt Iris, who he aims to be his latest victim.
During this time it is revealed that Richard, who lives a double life as a serial killer and a family-orientated father, is slowly unraveling after mistakes pile up.
While the movie lacks logic at times, if you can ignore these moments it presents a much different take on the serial killer horror.
A solid movie that certainly is worth the hour+ it takes to watch it.
