Pan’s Labyrinth Returning to Cannes

The 2006 horror-fantasy classic Pan’s Labyrinth, directed by Guillermo del Toro, is set to make it’s return to Cannes nearly two decades since it left audiences in an over 20-minute standing ovation all the way back in 2006.

Del Toro will be in attendance as the film kicks off the 2026 Cannes Classic lineup with a pre-opening screening. Del Toro reportedly personally supervised every stage of the 4K restoration process from the original 35mm negative film that starred Ivana Baquero, Sergi López, Maribel Verdú, Doug Jones, Ariadna Gil, and Álex Angulo.

According to the official synopsis: “Pan’s Labyrinth, from visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, is an Academy Award®–winning dark fantasy set in 1944 Spain. As fascist forces tighten their grip following the Spanish Civil War, young Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) is uprooted to a remote military outpost commanded by her cruel stepfather (Sergi López).”
