Filmmaker Steve Merlo’s new fan film ‘The Sawyer Massacre’ is aimed to serve as the prequel to Tobe Hooper’s original horror classic ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, and a new teaser trailer gives fans a glimpse into what is in store.
Merlo and his team have launched an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign in the hopes of raising $16,000 to get the film made, and ultimately release.
“The Sawyer Massacre is a feature length fan film and unofficial prequel to the iconic horror film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” Merlo said, according to Bloody Disgusting. We have already raised funds to make this film but our goal is to raise enough to shoot it in Texas where it should be filmed!”
“It is our intent not to copy what the original did, but use it as influence in a stylistic way. Our film will have more blood and kills but will still be very subtle in its delivery,” Merlo added.
According to the official synopsis: “While recovering from the loss of someone close, Jimmy’s friends bring him to the Texas countryside to escape city life. In need of supplies for their cabin, they head to a gas station where they are directed to an isolated farmhouse. The property is not as it seems. They find themselves hunted by the cannibalistic psychopath known as Leatherface.”
